I am not in favour of same gotra marriage: Hooda

Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said he was personally not in favour of marriage within same gotra and Khap Panchayats must also work as per law of the land in sorting out marriage disputes. He was replying to a question regarding the demand of Khap Panchayats for amendment in the Hindu Marriage Act while interacting with media person after attending a function organised to mark 125th year of foundation of the Indian National Congress (INC) here on Thursday.
Terming the khap panchayats as “informal social organizations”, the Chief minister compared these social bodies with non-government organisations (NGOs) engaged in various types of social activities.
Commenting on naxal violence, Hooda said some divisive forces did not like democracy and development in India. He said that only Congress with cooperation from all sections of society can work for strengthening democracy in the country which was necessary for its development and welfare of people. He said that Congress played a vital role in freedom struggle and development after independence in 1947.
Hooda was accompanied by Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Phool Chand Mulana,working HPCC president Kuldeep Sharma,DCC (urban) president Satish Pansari,Block Congress president Jaideep Dhankhar, Education, Health and Social Welfare minister Geeta Bhukkal, Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda, Rajya Sabha MP Shadi Lal Batra, local MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra, Kalanaur MLA Shakuntala Khatak besides other ministers,MLAs and other party leaders.
