Two youths were gunned down and a police security guard received minor injuries in a lethal assault by some armed assailants near Kheri village bypass under Sampla police station here on Thrusday. Son of one of the deceased managed to escape from the spot amid the firing while the guard is undergoing treatment in PGIMS here. The deceased have been identified as Phool Kumar, resident of Karour village and Kheema alias Kala, resident of Kheri Bohar village here.
Phool Kumar had recently come on parole. An old enmity is believed to be the cause behind the double murder. “The police has started investigation after registering a murder case against four youths – Pradeep, Ballu, Peshi and Leela- in this connection and launched a hunt to nab them.
Two of the accused belong to Karour village and have old enmity with Phool Kumar’s family,” said Rohtak DSP, Dalbir Singh Yadav. The incident took place in the morning when Phool Kumar along with his son Himmat, friend Kheema and police security guard, Bansi Lal, was going to Rohtak Jail in an Indica car to meet his four brothers who are lodged there on the charge of killings of two women members of a family.
As they reached near Kheri village bypass, their car was hit head-on by a Tavera car coming from opposite direction. Some armed youths immediately disembarked from the Tavera and opened indiscriminate fires on the indica car in filmy style. Kheema, who was driving the Indica car, reportedly died of gun shots injuries on the spot while Phool Kumar and his son Himmat tried to escape from the spot after coming out from the car.
Though Himmat succeeded in fleeing from the scene, his father Phool Kumar could not save his life. He was gunned down by the assailants after chasing him for some distance. Significantly, the security guard, Bansi Lal, did not use his official gun to save the life of Phool Singh and preferred to sit in the car during the murderous assault. However he received minor injuries on his forehead.
All the assailants fled from the spot after perpetrating the crime. The injured security guard informed the police officials about the incident, who rushed to the spot and sent the bodies PGIMS for postmortem after taking stock of the situation.
Phool Singh along with his four brothers was also accused in the murder of two women but succeeded in getting parole last month.
